Day 01 :

Day 01 - Arrival in Gangtok

Pickup's from Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station, and then it's the drive up to Gangtok - usually four to five hours, sometimes more if traffic's bad. Keep an eye out the window on this one; the roads keep climbing, and you'll actually watch the plains turn into hills as you go. By the time you check in, you'll have the evening open to walk around MG Marg, Gangtok's main street - it doesn't really wake up until after dark. Overnight in Gangtok.

Day 02 :

Day 02 - Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir

Today's an early start for the drive up to Tsomgo Lake, sitting at close to 12,000 feet and often still and clear enough to reflect the mountains around it. Weather and road conditions can affect access here, so it's worth keeping that in mind. From there, head to Baba Mandir, a shrine that draws visitors well beyond just tourists - there's a genuine story behind it that the local guides tell well. Overnight in Gangtok.

Day 03 :

Day 03 - Gangtok Local Sightseeing

Spend today closer to the city. Rumtek Monastery is the main stop, and it's worth the visit regardless of your interest in Buddhism - the architecture and the setting alone are impressive. Later, take the Gangtok Ropeway for a different vantage point over the town, followed by some free time to wander MG Marg or pick up souvenirs before the group heads back for the evening. Day 04 :

Day 04 - Leisure Day in Gangtok

This day is kept relatively open, since three days of sightseeing at altitude can catch up with people. Use it to revisit anywhere you liked, try local Sikkimese food properly instead of rushing through a meal, or just rest before the journey back. Overnight in Gangtok.

Day 05 :

Day 05 - Departure

Check-out, and then it's back to Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station for whatever's next on your trip. Four nights doesn't sound like much on paper, but between the lake, the monastery, and just being up in that mountain air for a few days, it actually feels like you got to know Sikkim a bit - not just drove through it and left.
