Seven days. One Himalayan state. More memories than you can count.
Sikkim does not let you acclimatise slowly. On the very first day, you find yourself glimpsing the Teesta River rapidly flowing far below. On the third day, you find yourself by a lake more than 17000 feet high. As you stroll through the Buddhist monasteries, you will reach a point the first time Kanchenjunga appears at sunrise. You stop grabbing for your camera and simply take it in.
The 7-day Sikkim tour package provides you with exactly the right number of days. There is enough to look at for the north, east, and west, without running. Quite enough to gobble it up, but not so much that you are filling yourself up.

Places You’ll Visit -And Why They Stay With You
Gangtok
Gangtok is the type of city that sparks your curiosity. There will be a small hill town, which you should expect. What you get is the living streets, the good food and the mountains and monasteries that fill the skyline. A car-free area that is filled with cafés and local shops, where folks come to hang out at the end of the day, is MG Marg—the social heart of the city.
But real Gangtok comes out gradually. As you head into the side lane, you’ll find a courtyard of a monastery containing monks debating scripture. Whisk across the valley’s width on the ropeway, and here present is Kanchenjunga. Inside Rumtek Monastery, you’ll be greeted by the Golden Stupa, where you will be able to catch a glimpse of Tibetan Buddhist history, spanning several centuries.
Tsongmo Lake and Nathula Pass
Tsomgo Lake is at a height of 12400 ft, only 90 minutes away from Gangtok. The colour of the water is a blue-green colour. The shore is surrounded by prayer flags. The entire surface is frozen in winter. Migratory birds come in the summer season, and Brahmakamal flowers bloom on the banks. The drive up is half the fun, with mood-changing switchbacks, thin air, and suddenly, a high-level valley comes into view ahead.
It is true that the Nathula Pass, which is at a height of 14,140 feet, is the actual border between India and China. There are military guards on either side of the gate. Winds are steady and biting. You are there, feeling the presence of geography -you’re on that edge where two of the world’s biggest countries meet, right in the middle of the Himalayas, mountains in every direction. It is one such location which does not require any explanation. The saying goes, “Let a thousand flowers bloom.
Yumthang Valley & Zero Point
The Yumthang Valley lies at an altitude of 11,800 ft in North Sikkim. It is also known as the Valley of Flowers. The reason this charming name is given to this valley seasonally in March-May is that it is blanketed in a rich layer of flowers during this time. Hillsides are covered by different colours of rhododendrons. The large channel that runs through the middle is the cold, clear River Teesta. Yumthang is beautiful – even if it’s not in flower.
The road levels off completely at the next station – Zero Point at 3,500 ft above Yumthang which itself is at 15,300 ft. There are no other objects, only glaciers, snow fields and sky. On a public street, people generally fall still the instant they get outside of the vehicle. It’s hard to grasp such a magnitude. Unfortunately, there are no pictures to illustrate it. This will certainly be one of those days you have to go through.
Pelling & West Sikkim
When Sikkim presents you with its softer side, it is Pelling. Quieter roads and Kanchenjunga can be seen across the whole of the state. One morning you wake up and it would just seem that the 3rd highest mountain range in the world starts right outside your window and you’re just about to join them.
Pemayangtse Monastery
It was founded as early as the early 18th century and continues to function. In the main hall is an extraordinary sculpture of an extremely elevated Stupa Palace of Guru Rinpoche, spanning seven levels, made by one monk over five years. It is complicated, colourful and the like and found nowhere else in the region.
The ruins of Rabdentse, the ruins of Sikkim’s old royal capital built around the 1700s till abandoned in the early 1800s, are only just a short distance away from the monastery. The stone walls, old gates, and abandoned lawns and terraces are swept by a gusting wind and the calling of the birds. Visitors from this vantage point among these ruins did not miss the chance of recording human history which has bubbled up from the ground, including Kanchenjunga in the distance.
